Record Companies are Fucking Idiots

After looking through a variety of YouTube videos (including my OWN; The Downward Spiral) I have decided that a huge rant is in order.

It seems that if you upload a video to YouTube that includes copyrighted music - and the stupid fucking record company that owns the copyright manages to catch you - then YouTube have to mute the audio track on the video or even remove the video all together. Thus making your video fucking useless and your time and effort wasted.

Now, you may be thinking that record companies are doing the right thing by protecting their assets and stopping others from making money off it. Well that's complete bullshit and I'll tell you why.

What the stupid fucking record companies don't understand is that someone could discover a particular song for the first time on a particular video, enjoy it and then go out a buy it because they enjoyed it. Removing the song doesn't help them AT ALL, it's not like people are gonna go to YouTube EVERY TIME they want to listen to a particular song is it? How ass backwards would that be? By letting people listen to the song in the first place you are giving people the opportunity to sample the music that otherwise wouldn't have bothered to listen before (because they either had no interest in it or the never heard of it before or whatever).

Imagine a time when you have had no interest in watching a certain film because of whatever reason, but you watch it with your friends because they decided to put it on and it has cost you nothing to watch it. Afterwards, you realise you enjoyed the film. Later down the line the sequel comes out in the cinema and you remember that when you saw the first film (for FREE) you enjoyed it and you go and pay to see the sequel at the cinema or even wait for the DVD release and buy the box-set of all the films. Does this sound familiar? This is exactly how watching a music video on YouTube can work. You watch it, enjoy it and then possibly go and buy the album or even just download a couple of songs off iTunes.

For some reason, record companies seem to think that because a song is on YouTube then they are not making money out of it. Are they for real? Are they really that dumb? Clearly they are.

The Aftermath

Apparently some people are extremely closed minded and have expressed their discontent with allowing The Downward Spiral to be submitted as one of my assignments due to the issues it deals with... now then, I just want people to understand (and I know that many of you who know me know this anyway) that I in no way condone suicide... nor do I condone violence (real violence anyway).

As I was making The Downward Spiral, I was constantly thinking "Am I going to far?", "Am I gonna get away with this?" and it appears perhaps that I was right in thinking those things, and to be honest with you, I was sceptical about it even being any good!

Fortunately, my tutor is extremely supportive of me and is going to help me get my work submitted and everything will be fine!

In a way, I find it quite flattering that it would cause such a fuss as it has. I didn't mean it to be controversial... it was just what I had in my mind and I let it out. Should my thoughts really be censored?

Machine Face is born

Now, your probably thinking... "What the HELL is Machine Face?" Well, I don't know... but I made this cute little cog logo and I thought it was more fitting than "Another Version of the Truth". Also, it allowed me to be more creative and look... doesn't it look better?

I'm hoping that you all prefer this to any other layout I've done... if not, tough. lol.

I would have been posting my thoughts on the Royal Rumble around about now but "someone" doesn't want to know the results so I'll leave that one.

Since I've spent most of my time doing the designing and making of Machine Face, I haven't got anything else new to tell you about.

Hello!!! You've managed to make your way to Machine Face. Well done.

My name is Jack Johnstone and I'm currently doing a New Media Design Technology course and have been creating artwork and videos and stuff for a very long time. This is my playground where I can talk people's heads off and let people know what I'm thinking. This is also a place where you can see new pieces of artwork as soon as they're finished...hopefully.

I've re-designed the Machine Face so that it's a bit simpler and less busy. I've also redesigned it to get me into a different mind set.

I want Machine Face to encourage me to let my thoughts out more often.

I also want it to push me to be creative while I'm not doing New Media work and to get me creating stuff during my free time.

Hopefully, I will accomplish one of these things by doing this.

Redesign and the Rumble

As you can see (if you've visited before) I've had a bit of a redesign. I thought a nice bright yellow with a contrasting black would be a nice change to the usual busy black and white mess of a background.
I'm planning on using this blog far more than I have been and therefore a cause for a nice new look. Not only will I be adding some random thoughts like I have been doing but I'll be adding some newly created artwork whenever it's been created.

Anyways, you will notice that the Royal Rumble is Sunday night... the Royal Rumble being the second greatest PPV in WWE history containing the most unpredictable match possible.

Not only am I looking forward to the awesomeness that is the Royal Rumble match, but also the WWE champoinship match pitting the champion Randy Orton against Jeff Hardy. Now, I know some people might be thinking that Jeff isn't ready for the WWE Championship but those that have been watching Raw in recent weeks will have seen the transformation from a mid-carder to someone who truely deserves to be in the main event.

Also, Rey Mysterio attempts to regain the World Heavyweight title from Edge (hopefully not), MVP tries make history by defeating Ric Flair in a Career Threatening Match and Chris Jericho tries to exact revenge on the returning JBL.

So, make sure you check back here 'cause I'm reinventing my blog for good.

M I A II

It seems so long since I last visited AVotT... mostly because it has been really long (hence the title) but also, I haven't really had the urge to announce things like I used to. Until now.

Last night, I stood in the freezing cold, the wind, the rain... the leg pain for 2 hours outside the Winter Gardens in Blackpool waiting for the doors to open for the Britain's Got Talent: Live Auditions. Ant & Dec, Simon Cowel, Amanda Holden and Piers Morgan were all there, along with 20 truly terrible acts.

A total of... erm... THREE acts actually went through to the next stage. The rest were either buzzed off or the audience (me) booed them to death.

The auditions will be shown on TV in a couple of months, the Blackpool auditions being the FIRST episode. Make sure you watch it, you'll probably see me in the crowd somewhere.

Anyways, those of you who chose to read what I have to say, I'm gonna try to post something (no matter what tripe it is) on here a bit more regularly.

Optimistic Pessimist

Ever the pessimist, there is a sudden and almost nauseating realisation that everything is changing. Almost an early Mid-life Crisis, where I am quite puzzled as to what is going to happen and what exactly has already happened. Has it really taken 18 years to do that stuff? Have I accomplished what I could have? Have I missed out on opportunities? Have I been too concerned with what people think about me? Have I been concerned enough with what people think about me?

I can't say that I have done everything I could have. In fact, there is stuff that I feel I haven't and should have done. There is stuff that I am glad I haven't done. There is stuff I am going to continue doing. There is stuff I am going to continue not doing.

At this moment I am hoping that I am not the only on thinking these things, but I am also hoping that anyone who does feel like this can put there worries to bed and start being optimistic and I will try to be optimistic too.

I was going to talk about the save_us.222 video. But I think I'll save that for next time.

Now for something quite insane with pant wetting hilariousness.

So... first "week" of "University" done with... and I've only been there for 2 days.

It's soooo weird. I'm guessing that it's all down to the fact that they run the normal college stuff during the day and do the HE stuff later on. Coz my Timetable is absolutely crazy. Here's a glimpse of the thrilling weeks ahead:

How strange?

On the first day, we all went into the Casino in the Gaming Academy and spent an hour and a half in there with £100 worth of chips. I just stayed on the roulette table. 'twas fun. I managed to lose more than I won, but I didn't do too bad. We didn't get to keep our winnings.

Anyways, I just wanna say that I hope Rob and Grace have fun at their respective Universities and I hope that I get to see them regularly... or at least semi-regularly.

And for now... I'll leave with yet another Family Guy video.

The Pains of Technology

I am currently editing the Least Haunted Outtake show because we can't film the ending of Least Haunted 8 because our camera decided it doesn't want to. We are very... very annoyed. Because of this, we now have to postpone Least Haunted 8 for a while. But... hopefully, we'll find a solution to the problem.

So far, the outtake show is looking really good. I am sat looking at it as I type this and I am in awe. Unfortunately... the computer we use to edit the shows is being a (for lack of a better term) TWAT. It keeps crashing. So I am using the time it takes to restart the editing suite to write this blog on my laptop. It seems to be acting OK now... lets hope I can get through the rest of the show without having to stop and scream at the monitor.

Hello, welcome back to Another Version of the Truth. It's been a while... but it's back. As you can see, it's got it's own website now. This means it's easier for me to post my blogs without having to go trough the trouble of sending it to Kyle and having him upload it for me.

You may notice a little space at the right-hand side called [video_blog]. This is the space in which I plan on updating "semi-regularly" with some random stuff. It probably wont turn out to be a typical "video blog" as such, but whatever goes there... I'm sure you will enjoy. At the moment it features a video I created over a year ago... a somewhat repetitive but interesting visualisation for Tool's Vicarious, this is not a taste of things to come.

There's been very few things happening over the past few weeks. Most recently our A-Level results; the Judge and Jury of the rest of our lives. We all managed to pass and get into our respective courses, and therefore a huge congratulations of in order to anyone reading this who got the grades they needed or just got what they wanted in the end.

A huge apology to those who have wondered where on Earth the POWER10 has disappeared to. It seems that there hasn't really been much going on lately other than the A-Level results. But I would expect a brand new POWER10 to be gracing your monitors soon... keep checking EBP.net.

SummerSlam is THIS SUNDAY and marks the return of Triple H and Rey Mysterio. It may also be the end of John Cena's WWE Championship reign. I fucking hope so...

Out with the Old, in with the New (from 19/07/07)

It's been a while since my last blog simply because there has bearly anything to write about. SO, what has happened over the past few weeks now that I've let it all pile up? Well, Kyle and I have both recieved brand new mobile phones! Those of you who keep up with the POWER10 will already know that. I am now the proud owner of an LG Chocolate! It's awesome, it's refreshing to have a phone that I'm not ashamed of. Kyle recieved a Nokia N95 as an EXTREMELY early Birthday present. It has quite an impressive 5 Megapixel camera, among other features, which I am sure he will be using during our trip to Derbyshire.

Speaking of Derbyshire, we're going to Derbyshire! Yes, that's right, in just a few short days we'll be setting off to have a well earned break as an 8-some. Can we all co-exist I hear you ask. Well, we'll soon find out wont we. I'm planning on packing some rope incase I'm in need of a noose, to be used on anyone who even blinks at me... so you all better fucking watch out... tossers.

Anyway, as some of you may know, we're currently in post-production of a short film we're planning on making over the summer. I won't go into any details on what exactly it's about, but we're really excited about it and it's very, very unique. We're writing it at the moment, so keep yourself glued to EBP.net for more information.

It was Robin's Birthday a couple of weeks ago. I hope he likes his Sat Nav, Lighter and Awesome Scrapbook. We were making that damn thing at Lauren's from 7pm on Friday night right up until 2am Saturday morning. It was exhausting, but I hope it was worth it. We also made a Chocolate Birthday cake during that time, so I hope everyone liked that too.

I hope your all enjoying Season 2 of the POWER10, as of Wednesday night, we have introduced a brand new format for the POWER10. It has been described as a cross between WWE's "POWER25" and Alan Carr's "Topical Barometer". It's sort of a "what's hot, what's not" kinda thing. It's also got a deliciously shiny new look personal designed by...erm, oh yeah it's me isn't it. I felt that the old look was far too boring and it didn't reflect Eon Blue Productions...so, it was transformed from a drab table into a gorgeous one. I can hear your saliva hitting the floor as I type. Please, if you have any suggestions or complaints (why you would have complaints, I don't know) please send them to us at webmaster@eonblueproductions.net.

Anyway, there's not much to say now so I think I'll leave it there for now. Don't forget to check out Week 4 of the POWER10 coming up next week after we get back from Derbyshire. Sweet & Sour (from 29/06/07)

I was shocked and upset that on 25/06/2007 one of the most terrible things happened; Chris Benoit, his Wife Nancy and his Son Daniel were all found dead at their home in Atlanta, Georgia, I wont go into any further details. I'd like to express the fact that I think this FUCKING SUCKS. I cannot believe that someone who comes across so warm and humble could be involved in such an act. Chris Benoit was (in my opinion) one of the most intense and awesome wrestlers I have seen and at one point was one of my favourite Superstars. I hope the show will go on. I plan on forgetting this ever happened...

On a much, much lighter note, I passed my Driving Theory Test on Tuesday, what a relief. I had this nagging feeling that I was going to fail as I made my way there, but once I sat down and started answering the questions, the doubt subsided and I convinced myself I would nail it... and nail it I did! NAILED!

We had a REALLY good end-of-college-party on Tuesday night; we had planned on watching the Gridiron Gang and Night at the Museum, but instead had fun with the Xbox 360. Those who were there I'm sure you will agree that Lauren did a good job at keeping us fed with a delicious mixture of Pizzas, Chips, Nachos and other tasty treats. That Pesto Pizza was delicious. I hope we can have another night like that!

I hope you are enjoying the new season of the POWER10! We always have a tough time ranking different aspects of our lives in a table that only contains 10 spaces when we'd like to include everyone and everything in it. But, as you all should know, the POWER10 is just for fun, so if you find yourself not being featured in it then you are either idiots or we hate you! :D

I am finally getting a decent mobile. As some of you may know, my current phone's joystick won't move downwards, left or right... and has a hard time moving upwards. So, I took it upon myself to order a new one. I wasn't going to bother as the iPhone is set to be released over here near the end of the year, but I can't wait that long with this piece of what I like to call...shit. So, I will be upgrading my communications device shortly. Exciting!

18 (from 23/06/07)

First off, I'd like to say how much I enjoyed my 18th Birthday party. (For those who weren't involved, my friends and I held an awesome BBQ party two weeks ago.) While there were some minor mishaps and most of the food ended up in the bin, the major story was how awesome it was. I know that many of you who were involved enjoyed it just as much as I did, if not more so. I also want to thank everyone who contributed to my birthday fund, it is really an honor that I have so many important people in my life that care for me like you do. I'll try to get something good with it, dunno what yet, but I'll think about it a lot.

And so, as of last week, I am now an official 18 year old. I know what a lot of people tend to think when someone turns 18... ALCOHOL! and I am sorry to disappoint anyone when I didn't drown myself in the usual flood of beer and spirts that come with 18ths, but I felt that whilst keeping to what I believe, I also may have kept many people happy too. I know that while a lot of people hate the fact I don't infact drink myself silly, or even drink at all, I believe that some others (how ever finite the number may be) do infact respect my decision to choose such a lifestyle, and for that, I thank them.

So, getting away from the seriousness, I (along with many others) have finally finished my exams and thus my 2 years of college life. I'm slightly worried about what to do next, but we'll get onto that some other time. For now, we have many things to look forward in the near future. We've got 3 birthdays, including a trip down to Darbyshire to see how we can hold our own as an eight-some.
